Talking is Action! - 04/30/07 12:55 AM
I've decided to "weigh in" on the issue of providing unanticipated services from the perspective of a real estate agent because I'm sure that many of you are working harder than you have in the past.  Much of the weekend was spent in preparation for an upcoming presentation to title professionals.  The title industry is facing profitability issues caused by reduced business levels and increased competition.  The "knee jerk" reaction is to do anything and everything to bring difficult and possibly unprofitable deals to the table.

Power of Attorney: Should You or Shouldn't You? - 04/22/07 06:15 AM
I'm up early this morning previewing the slide display that will be used by an attorney that I'm giving a presentation with next week.  More specifically, my co-presenter is a claims attorney for a national underwriter.  Her PowerPoint presentation is possibly the best that I've seen and the information shared is invaluable.
There's one point from this claims attorney's presentation that I want to share with everyone at Active Rain:  Powers of attorney are abused often and the abuse creates enormous problems for the real estate industry each year.

About Friendship - 04/20/07 10:45 AM
Last night I received an unexpected email from a long time friend named Ken Pilla.  He wrote simply to say that we were friends.  Ken practiced law for many years in Baltimore before fulfilling a life long dream to live on the Jersey shore.  I knew and respected Ken before being invited by him, in the spring of 1993, to participate in an extraordinary urban experiment.  The concept was similar to Habitat for Humanity, but devoted only to abandoned homes in Baltimore's most desperate communities.  People without hope were afforded an opportunity to learn life's skills taken for granted by most … (17 comments)

About Purpose and Service to Others - 04/15/07 11:11 PM
Through the clutter and the chatter that is cyberspace, a single thread of human connectedness resonates with indisputable clarity.  We need to somehow see beyond the scope of technology and remain forever grounded in a fundamental need to serve a purpose.  The word purpose is the new mantra for the real estate professional in this modern day and age.  Homeownership is an authentic human experience, not an electronic synoptic exchange between micro-chips.  The word purpose defines the boundaries of our obligations to the consumer specifically and the community in a broader sense.
I fully grasp the message of the new generation of marketing evangelist.  We're … (19 comments)

My First Squidoo Lens - 04/14/07 02:08 PM
I only recently learned of the Squidoo Lens during a phone conversation with Rajesh Setty.  Rajesh is a widely published author and the host of an enormously popular blog named Life Beyond Code.   It turns out that Squidoo is the brainchild of Seth Godin who wanted to create an environment that encouraged the free exchange of ideas and knowledge.  The list of recognizable names with a Squidoo Lens is more than a little impressive,  Anthropologist Jane Goodall has a Lens. How cool is that?  So does Martha Stewart ( alright ... not as cool as Jane Goodall, but still pretty good).  … (9 comments)
