bellingham: Scotty Browns Social House in Barkley Villiage, Bellingham WA - 02/15/09 02:36 PM
Scotty Browns, which has already been shortened to Scotty B's by the locals, is the newest dining choice in the Barkley area.
There have been reviews ranging from "fabulous" to "okay."  I do know that one of the day time cooks is absolutely fantastic!  Ty Cook.  Yes, one of my many sons! And with a last name like that you have to be good!
Scotty Browns is a Canadian chain.  Our Barkley location is their first venture across the border.  Brilliant move I predict.  With big screen TVs, a bar and bar tenders johnny on the spot, you can only imagine … (0 comments)

bellingham: 100% Financing in Whatcom County??? - 01/31/09 08:20 AM
Yes, 100% Financing is still available!   Through the USDA Rural Housing Program! The USDA sets aside funds to guarantee 100% financing on homes that are in "rural" America!  The term "rural" usually makes one think of a country home on acreage. That is not the case.  Most homes that qualify for this program are in residential developments...outside Bellingham city limits!   In Whatcom County, the basics are...any home outside the city limits of Bellingham qualifies as "rural". See the Whatcom County Map.   There are several links to the left that showcase many of the available homes that qualify in Whatcom County.  Areas such as Sudden Valley, … (0 comments)

bellingham: The Sissy Rule of Football - 10/09/08 08:52 AM
Team E A Sports...that is the name of my Bellingham Fantasy Football Team.   I am currently 3 and 2...tied for 2nd place.  Not playing Ronnie Brown the week he scored 35 fantasy points...was, well...unfortunate!   I love the game of football.  Do I know all the stats, player numbers, what college they went to...lord no!  I often have to ask my husband, David, (our league commissioner) what number is Adrian Peterson?  "28, honey!"  (yes, he rolls his eyes every time he answers that!)   I just love the energy, strength and spirit of the game.  I do have opinions on … (1 comments)

bellingham: Bellingham Housing Market - 09/17/08 01:53 PM
Wow, what a ride!
Our local sales volume is down. No question about it! On average about 25% down from this time last year. Why? Unsettled lending environment, gas prices, anxiety, unemployment up...  However, our home values are holding pretty well.  Our inventory it down from last year as well, which keeps us close to an even buyer/seller market.  Hence, the values staying close to normal.   So, it is time to buy with the rates going down, the credit belt loosening back up, and lots of good inventory.  Time to sell? Yes values are holding and there are buyers...buying everyday!

bellingham: Bald Eagle goes to Spirit in the Sky - 05/14/08 01:09 PM
A Bald Eagle was killed today on Britton Rd.  He was going after a squirrel.  Here is our memorial to him.

On the currents of the Four Winds you ride the sky held aloft by unseen hands that hold you close to the Grandfather
Far below lies the world of Man a realm in which you also dwell, yet always from within comes the ache to rejoin the Great Spirit
Caught between two realms, you remind all who witness your beauty and strength of the eternal struggle of the two-legged to rise above the mundane and feel the Soul take … (3 comments)

bellingham: Bellingham, WA Bellingham Housing Stats 1st Qtr 2008 - 04/06/08 10:47 AM
As you may have read in the Bellingham Herald....We have experienced a drop in median price, and Lynden out preformed Bellingham. Things are still moving along, but in a more normal market. Where sellers need to plan ahead, list their home at the right price, and buyers have options with time to see several homes before choosing the one right for them! The lender issues have finally calmed down...and we are back on track. 100% financing is still available for 1st time homebuyers, those that haven't owned a home in 3 years, rural housing (North of Bakerview, East of Toad Lake...and including … (3 comments)

bellingham: You've got to see these shoes! - 02/15/08 01:55 PM
So I was shopping for some new shoes the other day...and came across these!  Perfect for those elegant dinner dates with my husband, down at the Marina...then walk along the shoreline...and then a quick dive!!!  Note the brand name!  High Tide Heels!
Added note: So, apparently this blog didn't count for points because it didn't have enough words....who knew!!!  Plus, to date no one has commented on how darn funny it is...I guess it is only funny to those of us who live where our webbed feet would actually look cute in those heels!!!  I prefer the blue pair myself!

bellingham: Mount Baker Neighborhood? It's not where you think!!! - 02/12/08 01:24 PM
As a member of the MBNA I am trying to spread the word.  It was only through my affiliation of the Barkley Business Association did I learn that I live and work with this neighborhood.  The name never lead me to believe they were talking about my neck of the woods!
The name conjures up visions of snowy mountaintops and lush alpine meadows.  Actually, the Mount Baker Neighborhood is nowhere near Mount Baker.  Perhaps you are among the thousands who live, work, shop, or play in the Barkley District- which just happens to be a part of the Mount Baker Neighborhood (MBN).  … (0 comments)

bellingham: The Bellingham Market Up, Down...running in circles??? - 02/09/08 06:34 PM
Over-priced home rankings, increases in foreclosures, flooded inventory...what does it all really mean to you?
Over Priced homes?  To a degree yes.  The ranking is based upon the average income, and the average home price.  Well, with over 12,000 students and a service based employment arena our average income is low.  Also, monies made from another state, or country do not figure into the average. (This is due to change soon!)
While we are ranked very low for number of foreclosures, our area is still experiencing a significant increase.  If you find yourself looking at this scenario, do not just throw in the … (0 comments)

bellingham: Go work those employers...they've got employees on the move! - 02/09/08 04:28 PM
The market is slow, so they say!  Who ever "they" are!
Well, here is one more avenue for you folks to pursue.  To those of you who are already pursing this in your markets...Good Job!
Being a REALTOR means being creative with the changes the market brings, year after year. A couple of years ago it was guaranteed income to have a listing...sold in 30 days!!! Recently ready, willing and able buyers are the target; because the inventory is so high....where to we find them?
www.EmployeesOnTheMove.com We are willing to share this, because anyone duplicating it in our market...is coming in behind us!!!  Second place doesn't count!
Here in Bellingham, during … (1 comments)

bellingham: Bellingham, WA Bellingham Housing Stats - 01/30/08 07:00 PM

While some are saying it is a total Buyer's market..it is, AND it is NOT!  The $250-$290k homes in Bellingham proper, are still seeing offers, multiple offers and shorter days on the market and yet there are still some great "steals."
Higher priced homes...Buyer's market.  Just look at the difference between average list price and average sold price.  The higher priced homes are moving...very slowly!  Does that mean there is a killing to be made...it depends upon the situation of the specific seller.  That can't be said enough.
More homes sold in Bellingham this year than last year!  Although there was a very slight reduction in … (1 comments)

bellingham: Bellingham Homes for Sale - 09/04/07 06:27 PM
Here are the current stats pulled from the NWMLS for Bellingham and Whatcom County Homes For Sale and Sold.  The picture is not so dim for the Bellingham housing market. bellingham: Mildew is the State Flower! - 09/02/07 01:54 PM
Just got this in an email, not sure who wrote it..but everyword of it is true!
This is a rather good description of we who live in the Northwest, Seattle, Bellingham, Ferndale...the west side of the State!
You might be from the Pacific Northwest if:
•1.       You know the state flower (Mildew).
•2.       You feel guilty throwing aluminum cans or paper in the trash.
•3.       Use the statement "sun break" and know what it means.
•4.       You know more than 10 ways to order coffee.
•5.       You know more people who own boats than air conditioners.
•6.       You feel overdressed wearing a suit to a … (4 comments)

bellingham: NW Gardening is a Sport - 09/02/07 12:25 PM
I wrote this article a couple of months ago, for our Bellingham Barkley Newsletter. After spending 7 hours in my gardens yesterday...my aches and pains this morning reminded me of it.  So I thought I would share it with you!
While you read this, I will be in a hot bath with a couple of advil thrown down my throat!!!
I recently read an article about gardening.  It declared gardening as a sport!  I agree!  We do all kinds of exercise for planting and pulling weeds.  The squats, knee bends, the ‘got to get that weed...can't step on the flowers...please don't let me fall' … (4 comments)

bellingham: Bellingam Housing Market - 09/02/07 12:01 PM
For two days now I have been staring at my computer, pondering my first blog....what should I write about, what do people want to read, why am I doing this??? Well, a recent email from my cousin Cathi who lives in the mid-west prompted the idea for this blog.
She is selling a piece of real estate here in the NW.  She is deeply concerned with the housing market.  Is now the time to sell, the time to buy, the time to invest in something other than real estate?  Fear has taken over her desire.
With the media reminding us everyday of the … (0 comments)
