Now that winter is upon us, doesn't it seem like it's time for a little ice skating? With this cold weather outside, you can get into the winter holiday spirit by trying your skills on the ice. Here on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, we are lucky to have our own Rancho Palos Verdes Ice Chalet which is open 365 days a year. It's fun to put on your mittens, wear your warm jacket and get ready to have a good time. Public skating sessions are every day of the week. In addition to open skating, you can get a team together for a little broom ball, or birthday parties and other (0 comments)
Yes its true, our very own George F. Canyon has not only Bird Walks, but also offers Canyon Night Hikes. The Bird Walks are on the first Saturday of every month from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Naturalist Loretta Rose is happy to guide you through a few of the riparian habitats on the Peninsula. You will learn about the canyon's willow trees and other plants which make up the habitat for our local bird species. Most of the focus is on the natural history of our local bird species and about how the canyon plays an integral part to their existence. (1 comments)
Tired of all the hussle and bussle of the holiday, and need a quick get a way? Then take a minute to breathe and visit our own local Catalina Kitchen at Terranea Resortin Rancho Palos Verdes. When you enter the hotel, it puts things back in prospective with its open floor plan, surf pounding outside and the relaxing water view. The hotel is decorated beautifully with poinsettias and Christmas trees in all the right places, but not obstructing the gorgeous view of the property. At Catalina Kitchen, you can sit inside or outdoors in the patio (with umbrellas and heaters). The fabulous menu offers a (0 comments)

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy begin their new Butcher Hill Nature Walk on Saturday, December 11th, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. For nearly twenty years, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy has had thousands of South Bay residents walk their free monthly nature walks throughout the Palos Verdes Peninsula led by volunteers. For your parking convenience, it is suggested that you park in the parking area at Ernie Howlett Park, 25851 Hawthorne Boulevard, Rolling Hills Estates 90274. You will be following the trail to the top of this prominent hill which marks the entrance to the Palos Verdes Peninsula. You will experience breathtaking views of the Los Angeles Basin during (0 comments)
Statistics for the month of November 2010 for Palos Verdes real estate are now available and it shows quite a drop in closed sales for the month - only 18! I am hoping this is an anomoly as 20 Palos Verdes homes have sold/closed escrow in the first 16 days of December. Pending sales for November 2010 are up to 51 from 46 in October. November inventory is again down to 221 active Palos Verdes Homes for sale compared to 254 in October (we are seeing the traditional holiday reduction as homeowners take their properties off the market for the holidays). Access to the Forrestal Nature Reserve is located at the base of Klondike Canyon (which was named after the Alaska gold fields) at Forrestal Drive. At one time this area was thought to have gold in its grounds but later it turned out only to be fools gold. If you want to explore the area around Ladera Linda Community Center, walk through the upper parking lot and climb the stairs to the soccer field beyond. The 163 acres of land to the north and east, are known as the Forrestal Tract. This will take you to the many different trails that are available to walk. These (0 comments)

The Stein/Hale Nature Trail and the Nature Center are part of the George F. Canyon Nature Park and Preserve in Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274. This area of wilderness is one of the most beautiful and attainable canyons on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The great thing about this preserve is that you can walk it or even ride horseback through Willow-Riparian and Coastal Sage Scrub habitats. The Willow-Riparian Habitat is a space where you can see how wildlife and people merge together. The different plant species, along with the natural layout of the land help support wildlife in these areas. The Willow-Riparian Habitat (0 comments)

The music itself consisted of a wide variety of styles from classical to modern and included not only beautiful voices but also wind instruments, keyboards and percussion instruments. This is always a popular event because of its wide range of music. The musicians are: Michael Warin, Katelyn O'Neil, Unni de Presno, Donna Barnes, Geoffrey Waring, Tom Barnes, Seth Barnes, David Stern, Dorothy Victor and (0 comments)
For some Palos Verdes homes owners, The Nutcracker Ballet is a family tradition. This production, at most local dance studios, is an anticipated annual event. Here is a little history. The ballet was first composed in 1891 by Marius Petipa, a world renowned choreographer, who commissioned Peter Tchaikovsky to compose the music for the tale "The Nutcracker and the Moose King". It's first performance in 1892 was a complete failure. Since then the Nutcracker has been the most widely performed ballet in the world. In 1954 world renowned choreographer, George Balanchine, created a new production of The Nutcracker putting new life back into the (0 comments)

Palos Verdes homes owners have heard stories or have actually experienced equity credit lines being reduced by financial institutions. A letter is usually sent to the homeowner explaining that market conditions have dictated this reduction. For example, a homeowner may have originally had a $60,000 home equity line and now it has been reduced to $35,000; the homeowner has currently used $30,000 of their original credit line. Most believe that their credit scores are unaffected and that is incorrect. Let's go a step further. Your credit card limit was also reduced from $20,000 to $10,000 and your balance this month (after (1 comments)

All four trails are part of the Canyons Ecological Reserve and vary in length from 2 to 4 miles. Del Cerro Park can be hiked in approximately one hour and is considered to be an easy hike. It consists of 1.6 miles round trip and is one of the more well maintained trails. This short, pleasant hike provides you with spectacular views of the Palos Verdes coastline.
