Palos Verdes homes owners have a wonderful opportunity to support our schools this weekend by registering for The Pier To Pier Friendship Walk which will be held this Sunday, October 30, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. (check-in is at 8:00 a.m.). This 3.4 mile walk begins at Manhattan Beach Pier. At the risk of sounding cranky, I can’t wait for Daylight Saving Time to be over. I am looking forward to getting up in the morning with dawn already breaking rather than getting up in the dark. The 6th Annual Senior Awareness/Health Fair will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Neighborhood Church. The Neighborhood Church is located at 415 Paseo Del Mar. This event is offered by PVE-CARES (Community Assistance and Resources for the Elderly and Seniors). September 2011 statistics for Palos Verdes real estate show a decrease in the number of sales and another increase in the average price for a Palos Verdes home sold in September. 44 Palos Verdes houses sold/closed escrow in September compared to 59 single family homes sold in August. Average sales price for Palos Verdes homes sold in September was $1,396,000 compared to $1,306,000 for August. 51 Palos Verdes houses had pending sales in September compared to 68 homes in August. There is something magical about these huge, gentle creatures – the blue whales. Palos Verdes homes owners are so lucky to have them feeding off our coast. Sometimes, you can see them with binoculars or even just the naked eye. However, the blue whales were featured in a recent LA Times article explaining that there are so many blue whales now feeding off our coast that they are in danger of being hit by a ship as the whales are feeding in the shipping lanes going into Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbors (click here to read article). How are Palos Verdes homes owners doing when it comes to equity in their homes and how many distressed sales do we have? A recent LA Times article states that half of homes owners nationally have at least 25% equity in their homes and about one quarter of homeowners with mortgages have more than 50% equity in their homes. In California, the numbers are slightly higher. My guess would be that Palos Verdes houses have fared even better because of “the stable, relatively affluent, low-construction characteristics of high-equity areas.” Click here to read LA Times article regarding Homeowner Equity. The Peninsula Seniors Lecture Series is once again giving Palos Verdes homes owners an excellent opportunity to hear special speakers lecture on different topics. Wednesday, I attended a Women’s Council of Realtors seminar where Leslie Appleton-Young, Chief Economist for California Association of Realtors, presented her 2012 economic forecast in addition to comments on the current economy and the real estate market. The Frascati Canyon walk will be explored for the first time on Saturday, October 8, 2011, from 9-11 a.m. This walk will be welcomed by hikers who love to explore our canyons.
