commuity information: Visit Lido Bakery - My Favorite In Palos Verdes/South Bay - 03/30/11 02:43 PM

Where does a Palos Verdes “connoisseur” with a sweet tooth go to buy bakery treats?  I am very particular when it comes to bakeries after owning my own several years ago (Carlson’s Cookies).  Lido Bakeryin Manhattan Beach is my favorite bakery in the Palos Verdes/South Bay area because their ingredients are fresh and their products are so tasty.
Lido Bakery is a family owned and operated bakery.  The head baker/pastry chef came from Sweet Lady Jane in West Hollywood.  They use only fresh fruit (with the exception of cherries – can you imagine pitting enough cherries for just one pie?)  My favorite treats are  their … (1 comments)

Fred J. Hesse Jr. Community Park in Rancho Palos Verdes is considered to be one of the most popular parks for Palos Verdes homes owners.  It is a well manicured parkland and has an active Community Center.  The park has both an upper park area with baseball and large soccer fields, and also a large playground area with unique equipment that is suitable for both toddlers and adolescents.  The newly developed lower park site has a sand volleyball court, and picnic areas, but there are no barbecues allowed there. There is a large picnic area with lots of tables and barbecues located near … (0 comments)

The Stein/Hale Nature Trail and the Nature Center are part of the George F. commuity information: Palos Verdes Stables - Things To Do In Palos Verdes - 10/21/10 03:19 PM

Palos Verdes Stables, in Palos Verde Estates, were built in the early 1920's before Palos Verdes Estates became a city.  There was a time when children could ride bareback from the stables down to Malaga Cove Plaza to visit Moore's Market, and could even ride down to Torrance Beach.  Nowadays riding is limited to several different trails and there  are three arenas where riders can practice their skills.
Palos Verdes Stables currently has a waiting list for boarding, but Palos Verdes residents are given priority when the stalls become available.  Horses are available for lessons and you can contact the stable … (0 comments)

commuity information: Things To Do In Palos Verdes - Whale Watching - 10/12/10 03:43 PM

Recently, there have been Blue Whale sightings only two miles off the Palos Verdes Peninsula coast near Point Vicente. The blue whale is the largest mammal on earth (as long as 3 school buses) and can weigh up to 336,000 pounds. They are an endangered species with approximately 2,000 living in the Pacific Ocean (the largest grouping) and hundreds more in the Antarctic and Atlantic Ocean.

La Venta Inn is a historical landmark that was built in 1923 for $17,000 and was actually the first structure on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.  It was used as the sales office/clubhouse for prospective purchasers of land in the Palos Verdes Project.  In the 1930s, La Venta Inn became a black-tie restaurant and weekend retreat for many Hollywood stars.  In the 1940s, the tower was used as a lookout point for the U.S. Coastguard.  Since the 1950s, La Venta has been used as a venue for weddings and other special events.
