The Peninsula Education Foundation is once again seeking donations to support our local Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District.  The primary source of income for most public school districts in California, including the PVPUSD, is from the State.  However, State support has declined since 2007-08.   The most stable and reliable funding source in recent years has been local revenue from the Peninsula Education Foundation.  As can be seen from the recent Newsweek article (click here) our high schools have been in the top 100 in the state, and in the top 500 in the nation for the last few years. Newsweek has selected the 500 best high schools in the nation in 2016, and both Palos Verdes High Schools were included.  Newseek’s criteria included a “broad range of data” including graduation rates as well as SAT & ACT performance, and the number of full time counselors and college acceptance rates.  As both of our local high schools ranked so high, it indicates how hard school counselors and staff work to challenge students with advanced placement college-level courses and tests.

Palos Verdes Peninsula Education Foundation (PEF) will be holding its annual “Main Event” fundraiser on Saturday, May 10, 2014, to assist in additional funding for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District.  This year’s event “Let's Bond" is inspired by James Bond and will have casino tables, silent and live actions, dinner and, of  course, dancing.  The cost is $250 per person if purchased by April 26, 2014, or $275 thereafter until tickets are sold out.

Recently, the API scores were announced and the Palos Verdes Unified School District showed another performance increase.
Walker Williams, the School Superintendent, announced, “In the spirit of “continuous improvement,” the District’s Academic Performance Index (API) score grew once again from 919 to 923 in 2012.  The percentage of students scoring proficient or advanced in both English Language Arts & Math remains impressive.  We are also seeing positive results with the proficiency of most students from significant subgroups.”  To read more about Palos Verdes Schools, click here...

Many Palos Verdes homes owners were surprised to receive an email from the Palos Verdes Unified School District that a new California law is going into effect for kindergarten aged children.  The new law states that for the 2012-2013 school year, a child must be five years of age before November 1st.  Prior to this change the cutoff date was December 2nd, which has been in effect for several years.  Click here to read more about Palos Verdes schools...

Palos Verdes homes owners have a wonderful opportunity to support our schools this weekend by registering for The Pier To Pier Friendship Walk which will be held this Sunday, October 30, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. (check-in is at 8:00 a.m.).  This 3.4 mile walk begins at Manhattan Beach Pier.  If you sign up either as walker or “virtual walker” and designate Palos Verdes Education Foundation as your charity of choice, the entire $25 fee will go directly to our schools.
