Palos Verdes homes owners (and/or tenants) who have children entering Kindergarten in the Fall of 2020, are invited to attend a Kindergarten Registration Information Program. The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District recommends that parents attend even if they have had other children go through the system because the program has changed. This is an important event if you have Kindergarten age children because some Palos Verdes elementary schools are impacted. The Peninsula Education Foundation is once again seeking donations to support our local Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. The primary source of income for most public school districts in California, including the PVPUSD, is from the State. However, State support has declined since 2007-08. The most stable and reliable funding source in recent years has been local revenue from the Peninsula Education Foundation. Newsweek has selected the 500 best high schools in the nation in 2016, and both Palos Verdes High Schools were included. Newseek’s criteria included a “broad range of data” including graduation rates as well as SAT & ACT performance, and the number of full time counselors and college acceptance rates. As both of our local high schools ranked so high, it indicates how hard school counselors and staff work to challenge students with advanced placement college-level courses and tests. Palos Verdes Peninsula Education Foundation (PEF) will be holding its annual “Main Event” fundraiser on Saturday, May 10, 2014, to assist in additional funding for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. Recently, the API scores were announced and the Palos Verdes Unified School District showed another performance increase. Walker Williams, the School Superintendent, announced, “In the spirit of “continuous improvement,” the District’s Academic Performance Index (API) score grew once again from 919 to 923 in 2012. The percentage of students scoring proficient or advanced in both English Language Arts & Math remains impressive. Peninsula High and Palos Verdes High ranked among the best in the nation as reported by Walker Williams, Superintendent of Palos Verdes Unified School District in his recently released update on May 31, 2012. The Washington Post rankings showed that the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School Districe has received national recognition for their outstanding academic programs. Many Palos Verdes homes owners were surprised to receive an email from the Palos Verdes Unified School District that a new California law is going into effect for kindergarten aged children. The new law states that for the 2012-2013 school year, a child must be five years of age before November 1st. Palos Verdes homes owners have a wonderful opportunity to support our schools this weekend by registering for The Pier To Pier Friendship Walk which will be held this Sunday, October 30, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. (check-in is at 8:00 a.m.). This 3.4 mile walk begins at Manhattan Beach Pier. Recently, The Washington Post released the list of best high schools in the nation and both Palos Verdes High Schools ranked in the top 15%.
