I first wrote about WCPSS in one of my FIRST posts to Activerain in December of 2007... and then I wrote again last December about the fact that that Wake County had A SCHOOL in the top 25 in the Country - but these were kids who had NOT been bussed all over the county for the last 10 years!  (read more here)

In December of 2007 I wrote about the Wake County Public School Board's decision to move kids around (click here), and force year round schools.  Many people felt that the Board's decision to move kids to keep an economic balance was the "best" of all opportunities...
The US News and World Report just released the "Best High Schools" in the Country - and Raleigh Charter is listed as number 25!  Whow Who!  It's a Charter School, not one of those with kids that have been moved all over the county.  Look at the stats in this report... does it support being … (1 comments)

Wake County Public School System has a really neat program that encourages Business Involvement in the School.  It's called the BELC. According to the WCPSS Website:
The BELC is composed of over 500 Triangle area businesses that are in long-term relationships with a specific middle or high school. Their goal is to help both teachers and students connect learning to the real world. The groups are called Business Alliances.
The Business Education Leadership Council does not require a tremendous time involvement (maybe 2 hours each month).  I've been involved in two different ones, at Leesville High School and  Cary High School … (2 comments)

They're busing our kids in Wake County, North Carolina... They could walk to school now - but they are moving them again so that we no longer have a community school.
Price of gas has gone up  -  the county doesn't have enough money - so in their brilliance, WCPSS decided that new schools will be mandatory year round schools.
