1. Candles. When you go out, blow them out. Candles are an easy-to-avoid fire hazard. Check every room for lit candles, tea lights and other ornamental flames you may have forgotten.
2. Keep paper and other combustibles away from festive lights. Modern light strings, like most new bulbs operate at much lower temperatures than older style festive lights - but can still represent a hazard in many circumstances.
3. Use timers for your outdoor festive lighting. Lights on. Lights off. Save money and confuse burglars.
