tower theatre: The Best New Movie Theater in Sacramento - 05/31/17 09:23 AM

It's like flying first class, once you get used to it you can't go back to economy class without great difficulty or super short flights. Although, in all fairness, the seats in a movie theater are not getting squished more tightly together in order to accommodate more movie goers like airline coach seats. Yet after my experience on Sunday, I began to wonder how I can ever go back to Tower Theatre, where I have to rest my feet on the rails.

Except, of course, Tower Theatre runs movies not shown elsewhere, so they kinda got you there. But that movie theater is … (4 comments)

tower theatre: A Movie at the Tower, Victorinox Spinners and Sacramento Home Buyers - 07/29/12 11:50 PM
Sunday was 3 things for me. Going to the movies, buying new luggage and answering calls from Sacramento home buyers. If you're looking for an interesting movie that will captivate and transport you to another time, I recommend Beasts of the Southern Wild, presently showing at the Tower Theatre in Land Park. It's a story about a community in Louisiana struggling for survival against odds -- hanging on to your home, your family and friends, your desires and dreams, despite perception and opposition and reality. The movie brings new meaning to the term underwater homes. It grabs your heart.

tower theatre: Here are the Board Member Candidates for the Land Park Community Association Election - 04/10/09 02:53 AM
I've taken the liberty of putting together a list of board member candidates who are running for election at the Land Park Community Association. I've included their employment status, too, so you can figure out what each of these individuals do for a living before voting for them on April 29th.
Members of the Land Park Community Association might want to read more about each of these candidates by Googling their names. Decide for yourself which type of voice you want to represent your interests at LPCA. For example, there is controversy over whether residents of Land Park should have a … (5 comments)

tower theatre: MILK at the Land Park Tower Theatre Draws Packed Crowds - 02/23/09 02:23 AM
We were last at the Tower Theatre to see Slumdog Millionaire just before Christmas. I nominated Slumdog Millionaire in my blog as Best Movie of 2008, and was thrilled to see it win Best Picture and all the other Oscars, but the Best Actor nominations had me glued to the TV.
Sunday, it was pouring rain in Sacramento -- some streets in Land Park were flooded, but I was still determined to go to the Tower Theatre. I scheduled all my real estate appointments tightly last week to give me this window of free time so I could go with my … (12 comments)

tower theatre: Here is My Nomination for Best Movie of 2008 - 12/23/08 02:01 AM
If you haven't yet had the chance to see Slumdog Millionaire, don't let this opportunity pass you by. It's showing at the Tower Theatre in Land Park, Sacramento. Slumdog Millionaire is my top choice for the best movie of 2008. It's warm yet evil, fascinating yet simple, inspiring yet sad, and it kept me glued to my seat despite its two-hour run time. It's a Hollywood movie at its finest.
My girlfriend, Lisa, will tell you I'm not always the best judge of movies, but that's because I dragged her to see Phantom of the Paradise starring Paul Williams in 1974. … (13 comments)

tower theatre: Land Park Neighbors -- Please Attend Hearing to Save Our Tower Theatre - 08/13/08 07:12 AM
The Land Park Community Association is urging all members to attend the Planning Commission hearing on Thursday, August 14 and support a limitation of new movie screens downtown. The Westfield Corporation has not agreed to limit its expansion of screens for the Downtown Plaza Expansion Project. An increase above four new screens will severely affect our historic Tower Theatre's ability to remain competitive.
If you want to see the Tower Theatre stay in business, please support limiting the new movie screens at the Downtown Plaza. The city is recommending a limit of four new movie screens, bringing the total to 11 … (8 comments)
