OK, I have spent the last few days glued to the blog "Are You Open For Business..." about whether we close the door on potential clients because we ask them to respect us and the laws that govern and protect the consumer. As a leader of a big office in Fairfield County CT education and training of our agents is some of the most important work that I do. And the dialogue has left me practically speechless.
Halfway through the blog I started to ask myself if, what on earth is happening here? Business is certainly tougher these days. Are people so scared to lose a warm body that they are willing to throw professionalism to the winds? Thank God there are agents out there that GET that in order to be treated with respect you have to respect yourself AND your profession.
I understand that agency laws are different depending on your state. So for those of you in a state with buyer agency, if you are in this business for the long haul, aren't heading toward an arbitration case over procuring cause, or run the possibility of being kicked out of your office by your broker because you are not protecting your company and are breaking the law, I would love feedback from this incredible community.
Please share your wisdom explaining the value of buyer brokerage and how it protects your client. Maybe we can help others understand not only why this is so important but how they can council their potential clients.
