Decor - with Holiday Flair (location: Gibson Island) - 12/20/09 02:49 PM
Christmas in Washington is incredibly special every year, but in 2009, we got hit hard by the snow bunny! To me, snow is the very best accessory to beautify a home. It is truly gorgeous here today with 16-20" of snowfall covering the ground and bright blue skies. While snow completes my favorite holiday tableaux, I have some great friends who are accomplished interior decorators, and they've got the secrets to making a home's interior fabulous. One friend, interior designer extrordinaire: Erin P. Pitts, lives not too far away on wonderful Gibson Island (one hour from DC). Erin was named one

Social Web Tips/Tricks from the Pros -Biznow Breakfast - 12/16/09 10:22 AM
This morning's Biznow breakfast at BLT on Eye St (great popovers, guys!) provided lots of great interaction with social network and social media leaders including those from Higher Logic, Globalstrat, TriNet, Social Fish and others: Top Tips: 1. The First Step - 12/15/09 10:52 AM
"The discipline of writing something down is the first step toward making it happen." - Lee Iacocca. I'm not talking about blogging, rather, making a business plan and putting it in writing. The new year (2010) is approaching, and many professionals make New Year's Resolutions. I am one of them... This year, at the suggestion of my broker, I am putting my goals in writing and making a specific business plan with clear goals. In addition, I will have a list of specific activities that I plan to do in order to achieve those goals. "You've gotta dream it to achieve

Climbing a Mountain Together - 12/14/09 12:09 PM
Just finished Getting Past No by William Ury. My favorite insight from the book has to be:"go slow to go fast!" He talks about working with clients by "breaking up the journey into small stages, pacing your client, stopping to rest when necessary, and looking back periodically to see how far you have come!" Great advice in this climate.

Real(estate) Equality - 12/10/09 05:53 PM
With good reason, the National Association of Realtors insists that licensees reveiw Equal Opportunity Housing rules/regs with every continuing ed renewal. Beginning with the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which attempted to prohibit any discrimination based on race, but obviously did not succeed, the US government has passed numerous laws that have aimed at achieving fair housing. Certainly, there have been huge successes as well as glaring failures since then. What strikes me, however, is that in 2009, some so-called "progressive" thinkers still speak of "tolerance" as the goal for racial equality. As a good friend of mine (who happens to be of
