Fun Daytrips From Houston!
One of my favorite daytrips from Houston, is to Austin Texas.  One of the best parks in Austin is Zilker Botanical Garden, and the annual Orchid Show they sponser is usually around second week of April.  These are pictures from my trip there in 2008.  On the way the to park, I saw this wonderful train.   The shape of the front of the engine is extremely unusual.

The Japanese Garden section of Zilker Botanical Garden has many interesting features, including the koi ponds with the stepping stones, the tea house and the stone and wood bridges.

The three pictures below are some orchids from the Orchid Show in 2008. 

Isn't this one adorable?  The color is wonderful shades of purple and pink and the pattern is exquisite.  It almost looks like it was painted or airbrushed on.

I don't think I'd ever seen ones like this before.

These yellow and orange orchids took first place. 

 There are lovely hiking trails in Zilker Botanical Garden.  Here is an example of one of the cute chairs that are actually butterfly sculptures -- they are a wonderful place to take pictures of your friends or family members.
