In re-reading The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, Deepak Chopra notes that if you want joy, give joy, if you want appreciation and attention, give appreciation and attention. If you want material affluence, help others to become materially affluent.
I love that the root of the word affluent  comes from affluere - to flow to   and currency, another name for money comes from the Latin, cuerre which also means to run or to flow.
