The Deadline Looms -- Supplemental Home Inspection Education
Time is running out for those people who are doing home inspections in Washington state without a license. As of July 1, 2010, anyone doing home inspections without a license is violating state law.
There are a number of people out there who have, previously, taken home inspector training but the hours were not sufficient to meet current state guidelines. Those inspectors who require supplemental education are operating under a tight time-frame.
The applicant must have completed the supplemental training, and have passed the state exam, before July 1, 2010. Failure to do so in a timely manner means that said person will have to quit inspecting until he or she has completed a 120 hour course and also completed 40 hours of field training.
There are a number of providers of "fundamentals training", the 120 hour course. But Bellingham Technical College offers one of only a few approved supplemental courses. I got word today, due to the last minute demand and tight time-frame, that the college has planned to fit in two more supplemental courses prior to the licensing deadline.
