OMG What Is That? Is That a Castle in Kansas City?
What's that sticking up over those houses?

 
Do you see it? To the left of the brick house? Is that a turret? Where are we?
The house/castle was built in 1909 by Dr. Flavel Tiffany. Dr. Tiffany was one of the foremost ENT doctors in 1878 and one of the founders of the Kansas City Medical College.
Architect Clifton C. Sloan designed the castle for Dr. Tiffany in the medieval Normandy style.It took several years to construct the home.
Tiffany Castle was the first residential building in Kansas City to be designed using reinforced concrete.
When Dr. Tiffany died in 1918, Dr. C.S. McClintock bought the castle. Dr. McClintock died 3 years later, leaving the castle vacant for years afterward. Broken windows let the wind blow throught the castle making howling, eerie sounds; rumors that the castle was haunted permeated the neighborhood.
Children dared one another to enter the castle. The police were called in to investigate reports of vandalism. They found that the castle had been used as headquarters for a gang of car thieves.
Another doctor, E.R. Millis, bought Tiffany Castle in 1924. The castle was originally built at a cost of $75,000. It's estimated ... more
