Historic Homes of Denver - Question # 5 - Do I Really need to get a Radon Test?
Yes, Radon is common in the suburbs, but this is still relevant in Denver.

Is it really necessary to have our home inspector conduct a radon test?  We have heard that radon isn't really common in Denver.

Dear Fred & Sheila,
You are correct, radon is much more common in the burbs southwest of Denver.  However, I have seen unacceptable levels found in homes in central Denver.  So, in short, my answer is yes, have the test done.  That way, if it does come out high, we can request that the seller pay for a radon mitigation system.
You will eventually sell your home, and there is a better than average chance that a buyer will conduct a radon test.  If you already have a mitigation system in place, you won't even have to worry about it. 
With Sheila expecting, making sure that radon is NOT in your home is a good precaution to take with the new baby arriving soon.  Please call me if you have any additional questions.
