What is NYC Senior Citizens Rent Increase Exemption Program (SCRIE) ?
Through the Senior Citizens Rent Increase Exemption PRogram (SCRIE) people 62 years or older with yearly incomes below $29,000 may be eligible for exemptions from all or some increases in rents, carrying charges, capital assesmentsor vouluntary capital contributions.  Senior Citizens tenants who reside in rent control or rent stabilized apartments can apply for SCRIE through NYC Department of Finance and may be entitled to an exemption from future rent increases.  If a tenent is approved landlords are eligible for an equivalent credit (abatement) on the property taxes.
