An Architectural Shift: Steamboat Springs, Colorado - Modern Mountain Homes
When you thinks of Colorado, what comes to mind? The Rocky Mountain, wide open spaces, cowboy hats, aspen trees, or maybe, something western.
Steamboat Springs locals and loyalists are proud of Steamboat’s genuine western charm and ranching roots. Our western heritage is as much of the town’s charm as the beauty of the mountains and open spaces. For many years the popular decorating theme has been the ‘authentic rustic western’ look of log beds, Indian rugs, wrought iron lamps, etc. A signature of the old west and remote mountain living which many visitors expect to fulfill their fantasy of being in the remote Colorado, Rocky Mountains.
What I have noticed in the past several years is a shift, or rather an attraction from the traditional ‘old west’ décor to a more modern and contemporary style aptly named ‘mountain modern’. I'm not saying people are getting rid of the western theme, but homeowners are creating spaces which are more in line with their personal taste and lifestyle; either for a home away from home feel or a for everyday living. And they are starting to embrace a modern-like style.
