Water Safety Tips

 
 
Summer is defintiely here and I am reading online about children drowning in Lake Michigan over here in Chicago.
I was raised on, in and under water in Michigan.  It was expected in our family to take swimming lessons every summer when we were at the Lake in Rockford, Michigan.
Drowning happens like at the snap of your finger.  It doesn't take much to have a little one turn up missing because someone turned their head and they wandered off into the lake or pool area.
 
 
 
Children need to know and understand that we do not cry for help or use the word "help" unless we are really in trouble. If you don't know how to swim, then you do not enter the water unless with adult supervision. If adult supervision isn't available, then you need to have a "buddy" system.  Pair off with a friend and keep an eye on each other. Life Jackets are their for those who go boating or water skiing on the water and should be worn at all times.   Do not go into the water after you eat but wait at least one hour because you can get cramps.  ... more
