If you have been driving around in Spring Hill and Brooksville, Florida lately, you might have noticed many buildings that are sporting some new and unfamiliar signs!  They have in common the Maltese Cross shape with a letter of R or RF in the center.
What is the meaning of those signs?  Recently, a member of the Spring Hill Fire Department explained that these signs and symbols are Truss Identification Signs.   
Truss identifications are posted on commercial buildings in such a way that they are visible from the street or parking lot. In emergencies, firefighters often have to get onto roofs so these signs will let firefighters know what type of roof construction they are encountering. 
In the Spring Hill area, we will mostly see a single "R" within the Maltese Cross indicating that the building has a truss roof.  However, multi-story buildings may display a sign with a "RF" indicating that the roof as well as the floors are of truss construction.
So now you know!  What's that Sign on that Building!
