Cowlitz County is one of the smallest Counties in Washington State and is located in the Southwestern region. The county covers 1,166 squire miles, has about 96,000 residents who make their homes in the following cities, Longview, Kelso, Woodland and Castle Rock and their surrounding rural communities, Toutle, Silver lake, Lexington, Ryderwood, Yale, Ariel, Cougar, Carrolls and Rose Valley.
The rich and fascinating history of Cowlitz County goes back to the early 1800s when Lewis and Clark pass thru this area in their mission of exploring the West. Early settlers and present residents a like have made tremendous effort to make sure that the explorers presence in the region never be forgotten, you can find monuments, streets, mounts, rivers, lakes, creeks, parks and trails name after them.
The County rough mountains terrain is home to the Douglas fir, hemlock and Western cedar which is logged to supply the domestic and international markets, this large supply of logs and finish lumber once put the County in the map as the "Timber Capital of the World" around the mid 1900s.
