18 Percent of Albuquerque Public Schools are Failing "The New Mexico Public Education Department has just released grades for public schools based on its new A - F program – and many New Mexico schools didn’t fare well. The rankings show 73 of the state’s 831 schools got A’s – while 89 received F’s. APS superintendent Winston Brooks issued a statement Tuesday in reaction to the grading system, which he called “an interesting tool by which some may evaluate individual schools.” After taking a closer look at the report, it appears that Albuquerque Public Schools accounted for 34 percent of failing schools. 166 Albuquerque Public Schools were graded, 30 of them received failing grades. That is an 18% failure rate. In light of the fact that quite a few of them also received Ds, it seems to me that there should me a more comprehensive look at APS.
