Here We Snow Again!
The balmy winter of 2011 has turned into the deep freeze of 2012.   In an effort to avoid a repeat of last February's snow storm, when cars were backed up and blocked behind a jack-knifed bus, the Chicago Transit Authority, (CTA), re-routed buses off Lakeshore Drive around 3pm this afternoon.  Some routes have now resumed travel on Lakeshore Drive, while a few are still re-routed onto city streets tonight.
Once the snow has subsided, snow removal becomes the major order of the day.  And believe-you-me, this city takes snow removal very seriously.  Chicago mayoral elections have been won and lost over poor snow removal efforts.  This year, the city has gone high-tech with it's snow removal fleet. By visiting the City of Chicago website and searching "snow plow tracking," you'll  find the new real-time  snow plow tracker at ChicagoShovels.org.  I just did a quick check and can see that at 9:20pm there were several plows working around my office, (the red dot icon.)  When you click on the blue icons, they tell you the exact address the plows are in front of.
