Great Book to Read on Leadership, Success Principles, and Thinking
For those of you who like to read, "The Ant and the Elephant," by Vince Poscente is a quickly-read parable about leadership and success.  The author relates that he listened to a speech by a psychologist, Dr. Lee Pulos, in 1992 that changed his thinking.  Or his thinking about his thinking.  What I mean is, Dr. Pulos stated that at birth, we have about 120 billion glial cells, or active neurons in the brain--the thinking connections in the brain.  When we grow up, we don't use them all and begin to lose them, so that number turns into about 10 billion that are still around and usable for conscious and subsonscious brain activity or thinking.  Yep, we become stupider (is that a word?). 
The doctor went on to state that within a second of time, our conscious mind uses 2,000 neurons, while our subconscious mind uses 4 billion neurons--that's TWO THOUSAND vs. FOUR BILLION, respectively.  So, the author, Poscente, realized he needed to think about his thinking a little bit differently.  So he wrote this book.  In the book, Poscente relates the story of--you guessed it--an ant and an elephant, or our conscious and subconscious minds.  I know, I know--it all sounds a ... more
