I Wish I Could Let You In

While rummaging through my picture files to delete and organize them I came across this forgotten snapshot of an owl.
During the blizzard of 2010 I snapped this photo while sitting at my in-home office watching the snow pile up. Suddenly, this owl flew into the trees within about 30' of my sliding glass door. As you can see, his/her feathers are puffed to help keep warm. I think those are snowflakes on his/her head.
Lake Ridge is a unique subdivision in that 1,200 acres of the 4,400 acre subdivision is heavily wooded common area throughout. Additionally, the developer didn't bulldoze all the trees from the building sites. Unlike most development Lake Ridge homeowners didn't have to wait for trees to grow - Lake Ridge started out with mature foliage and a ready made zoo. I regulary see deer, fox, raccoons, possum, rabbits, skunks, chipmunks and, yes, an unending supply of squirrels. I also see just about every bird common to this part of Virginia and feed many of them.
Evenn though I live in the woods with animals all around I'm only a mile from the Lake Ridge Starbucks.
