We’ve all experienced working with agents who would rather sell their listings themselves rather than cooperate with other agents.  I just wrote a post about this topic.  One comment sticks in my mind, and that was the statement by Barbara Altieri.  She made a point of saying that if she were management, that type of agent would be gone.
Barbara’s right.  It all starts with the Broker/owner.  If this element was not hired, there would be no need for this discussion; if the Broker/owner’s main goal was not solely income, this topic would be mute; and if the Broker/owner interviewed more thoroughly, the office that is saddled with this element, would not be!!
It all starts at the top.  If Broker/owners would be more selective in their hiring procedure, this element would not be affiliated with top offices that have a concern about ethics and an interest in cooperating with other agents.
We don’t have this element in our office.  We’re set up to cooperate with all agents.  We appreciate facilitators and will pay them just as we do cooperating agents.  It’s difficult to maintain that environment, especially when seasoned agents are continually inquiring about joining our sales force.
