The York Durham Heritage Railway opens their season with a tribute to our Canadian Forces who carry out their duties every day with valour and bravery. They have earned the respect and recognition of Canadians and citizens of other countries around the world for their unwavering dedication and commitment.  
YDHR Celebrates Canadian Forces Day - June 3rd, 2012
The York-Durham Heritage Railway will honour our Canadian Forces members, both active troups and cherished veterans, by offering them a free ride on June 3rd.
History and Heritage - Uxbridge Ontario - The York Durham Heritage Railway
Built in the late 1800's to transport grain and lumber it was known as the Toronto and Nippissing Railway (T&N). Once completed it ran from Toronto to Coboconk. The rail line went through many ownership changes over the years and eventually ended up as part of the Canadian National Railway system owned by the Government of Canada in 1920. All That remains of the line today is the section from Uxbridge to Toronto as over the years sections of the rail line were taken out of service.
