Who's Your Sister City? Cooper City’s Sister City is Killarney
Every day on my way to work, I pass a sign that tells me that Cooper City’s sister city is Killarney, Ireland. I wasn’t sure what being a sister city really meant, so of course I Googled it. Wikipedia was nice enough to let me know that sister cities (or twinned cities) are “cooperative agreements between towns, cities, and even counties in geographically and politically distinct areas to promote cultural and commercial ties”.
Next stop, Wikipedia Killarney! I’m not 100% sure what prompted the Cooper City to have Killarney as the sister city (not too many Irish folks here), but I read that it was named Ireland’s tidiest town and the cleanest town in the country in 2011, and I sure can say Cooper City does try to do the same! Whatever their reasons were, I think it’s a beautiful place to be tied to.
