One of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen. In late May of 2006 I went on a wonderful trip to the BVI (the British Virgin Islands). It changed my life. We were about 9 days on a 37 foot sailboat cruising from island to island however we decided, on a whim. I’ve never had a greater time.

Almost every evening was as beautiful as the one depicted in these photos. The five here were taken on June 1, 2006 in sequence over 8 minutes from 10:16 pm to 10:24 pm. I love the variety of colors and textures and how the hues change from one photo to the next.

I checked several sites online to find out how far off is the horizon. The island is a about a mile and the very edge of the horizon looking towards the island is a little over 14 miles.

I’m no sailor, I’m a landlubber from Renton, Washington. But I got my sea legs fast and acquired many sailing skills. Maybe it's a guy thing, but my imagination took me straight to The Far Side of the World, by Patrick O'Brian. I loved those stories as a kid ... more
