Stanislaus County is close to a lot of fun and interesting places.  One of those places happens to be Columbia State Historic Park.  Columbia California was very active during the California Gold Rush of the 1850's.   Several of the buildings from that era still stand in Columbia State Historic Park. 

 
The Gold Rush era business district has been preserved with shops, restaurants and two hotels.   These are not just historic displays but actual working businesses.  One of my favorites of course is Nelson's Columbia Candy Kitchen.   The candy kitchen has been the home of fine handmade candies in Columbia, California since the late 1800's.   It has been owned by the Nelson family since the 1930's.  
 
Columbia State Historic Park is also home of the Fallon House Theater.  After burning down a couple of times the theater was rebuilt of brick and reopened in 1860.   The theater is still in use to this day.  You currently can see a production of Cinderella at the Fallon House Theater.  The Sierra Repertory Theater has been the resident theater company at the Fallon House Theater since June of 1997.
