Beginning in 2013, all apartments must have installed carbon monoxide (CO) detectors in every unit to satisfy the new State Legislation. This is not a new law, but the deadline is set for January 1, 2013. Is your property compliant with Senate Bill 183, enacted in 2010?
 
We have heard about these carbon monoxide detectors being required by the July 1, 2011 deadline for homes in California. This bill required homes with an attached garage, fossil fuel burning appliance and fireplaces to have installed detectors to satisfy the legislation in California. In that bill, the deadline for apartments was set for the first day of 2013.
 
Studies have shown that by installing detectors lives can be saved by alerting residents whenever high levels of carbon monoxide are present in a home.
