The battle against aids is underway at The Center For Innovation at Tradition in Port St. Lucie Florida. The major players are Torrey Pines, Mann Institute, VGTI, Martin Memorial Hospital Systems and a network of researchers in Florida at various Universities and hospitals. http://www.tciflorida.com/
Torrey Pines opened in 2008 and began research to create new molecules to test for the HIV/AIDS cure. Rafick-Pierre Sekaly, PhD is the codirector and scientific director at Torrey Pines made a groundbreaking discovery. He found that the AIDS virus hides in cells when antiviral medicine is given to a patient.
Richard Houghton, of Vaccine and Gene Therapy developed a method of creating molecules 100 times more effectively which enabled Torrey Pines to produce 30-40 million compounds. These compounds are being tested to keep the virus from hiding in cells when medicine is present in the patient.
Clinical trials on his exciting discovery at Martin Health Systems new hospital at Tradition within 18 months. The cure for AIDS will come not from one lab but from a consortium.
