What’s the best paint for kitchen and bathroom cabinets?
What’s the best paint for kitchen and bathroom cabinets?

I’ve been doing some research on this for homeowner’s who would like to do a budget update on their existing wood cabinets. If you’re fortunate to have solid wood kitchen cabinets or a wood bathroom vanity that’s sporting the lovely 80’s shade of golden oak, try painting them out before replacing them.

Key to a successful, professional look is the brand of paint you’ll be using. My recommendation is Benjamin Moore’s ADVANCE brand. Its an interior alkyd-resin paint that brushes on like oil, hardens like oil, cleans like latex (soap and water), without the strong smell of an oil-based paint because it’s a low VOC (velocity odor control), waterborne paint.

Unlike its competitors, Benjamin Moore’s ADVANCE does not require a lot of prep. Cleaning your cabinets and then just a light sand should do the trick. You can apply ADVANCE without a primer. It flows and levels to give you a perfect finish. And, the color selection is unlimited.

Have you’ve ever tried to paint something like a bookcase with latex paint and the paint peeled? That’s because of latex’s elasticity. Not a mistake you’ll make twice ... more
