Governor Pence Goes to Washington
While Vice-President Elect Mike Pence is still the Governor of Indiana, he's spending most of his time here in DC working on the transition to the new administration.  Since the Bidens will be in the Vice-President's official residence until the inaugural, the Pence family has moved into a temporary rental.
The house is in Chevy Chase, an affluent DC neighborhood with pretty tree-lined streets with homes that are mostly brick center-hall colonials.  The Pence's reportedly moved into a 5-bedroom home they are renting for $6000 a month. 
And then the welcome started.  One of the neighbor's hung a rainbow flag  on the front porch, and now a bunch of houses on the block a sporting these symbols of the LGBT community expressing pride and marriage equality.  
And watching the news item about the flags tonight, Pence became human to me.  And while I don't support his stand on gay rights (among other things), I found myself empathizing with him and his family. He's about to take on a lot more than any previous vice-president has had to handle, and this isn't the best way to say, "Welcome to the neighborhood."
