Today is the First Day of Winter. Brrr!
Today is the official winter solstice and has the least daylight of any day this year.  In commemoration of things to come I have included my winter solstice poem.  I hope you enjoy it.
 
A White Celebration
 
From the silent sky it began to fall
Cascading wistfully down to us all
Jogging our memories with simple beauty
To remind us to carry out our duty
 
It collected gently on the barren earth
Laying fallow but still of great worth
Creating a beautiful shimmering quilt
One that only by the Divine could be built
 
What a chance to ponder without interruption
Our earthly lives and our close interaction
The ways in which we have grown through the years
Accomplishing feats and creating careers
 
In the awesome silence I think of joining together
Unions tested by time shall now prosper forever
The gift of new birth to perpetuate our alliance
And to continually strengthen our mutual reliance 
 
Guided by the caprice of each falling flake
Our bold one the first step he would take
Showing us all that we would be fine
If we just follow his example and savor our time
 
Now we are bolder and stronger too
Approaching with wonder all that we do
Knowing he is there looking down from above
Touching us daily with his care and his love.
