This Year Columbus Day Was a Little Odd
What a strange federal holiday Columbus Day turned out to be.  The stock and bond markets were open, catholic schools were closed and public schools were open.  Usually on federal holiday there is no trading or at a minimum the trading hours are shortened.  At the same time as Columbus has been in the headlines for his mistreatment and murder of natives, some Americans are calling for the changing the holiday's name to "indigenous peoples' day".  The traders were so confused that the sum of the movement of all three U.S. indices combined was nearly a perfect zero.  The Dow gained 2 points in remembrance.
