You want them to see the HOUSE not your STUFF!Have a "Focal Point" such as a Fireplace and HIGHLIGHT ITKeep your Home Clean, Dusted, Vacuumed and Smelling FreshKeep all of the Trash Cans EmptyPut away Personal ItemsStore Family Pictures - Showcase the HOUSE not GRANDPA!Remove un-necessary FurnitureHide those CORDS!! Wrap, Hide, Get Rid of EXTENSION CORDS, etc... 
Most of all ... HAVE A FAMILY PLAN! 
Sometimes you will get a showing notification with LITTLE or NO NOTICE!
