What do Frida Kahlo, Bindi Irwin & Chloe Kim have in common?

What do they have in common?  They are all part of the 17 new dolls being marketed by Mattel toys as part of their new Barbie Doll line.  Dolls that are diverse and allow our children to see strong, intelligent role models who they might be able to see themselves in. The timing is excellent, in fact couldn't be better. These dolls are strong, beautiful and ethnic, and are not as - ahem - "top heavy" as some of the former Barbies that have been offered to the consumer.  Here are some of them:
BINDI IRWIN, the charismatic daughter of the late Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter.  Bindi has been featured on the Animal Planet channel, as well as broadcast into our homes as part of Dancing with the has-beens... (what do you mean that's not really the name of the show?).  Here you see her in her standard fatiques along with her trusty stuffed side-kick Koala bear.  Wrassling a stuffed crocodile? ... she can handle it.  Feeding a giraffe? She's got it covered! Singing with a cookabura, crickey, she can do that too!  Is there anything this wonder-woman can't manage?  Yeah... she can't stop being adorable. Bob's your uncle!
