Forest Estates is a popular, attractive, quiet and family-friendly suburban community of single family homes in the Silver Spring zip code of 20902.  The Neighborhood is bordered by Georgia Avenue to the west, Dennis Avenue to the north, Forest Glen Road to the south, and Sligo Creek Park to the east. 
The land for Forest Estates came from the large 200 acre farm and country estate of Civil War General George W Getty.   The last Getty heir, Mildred Newbold Getty lived in the house at 10001 Georgia Avenue until her death in 1982 .  After her death the house was razed and the land became what is now Getty Neighborhood Park.  
General Getty Park is a popular meeting and recreational space for the people that live in Forest Estates and the surrounding area.  The park is the site for the Getty Farmers Market during the spring summer and fall.
There are 3 Legal Subdivisons that make up what is considered Forest Estates they are: Forest Grove (the oldest), Forest Estates (the most houses) and the Forestvale Subdivision.
