Builder trends are matching local buyer trends
Realty Times recently had an article published that outlined many of the customer trends that were impacting new construction.  I've seen many of these same trends within my own client base regardless of whether they were buying new or resale homes.
This should be a list that sellers should consider when preparing their homes for sale, or for homeowners who are looking to do some remodeling but want to know what might help them make a more viable and market friendly home for the future.  The items I really agree with in this list are smaller square footage, storage, recycling centers, and open, well organized spaces.  As people are more cognizant of their imprint on the planet, we will have homes that begin to emphasize those impacts.
My last house had a pull out recycle storage area in the kitchen with 2 plastic containers that we put our recyclables into.  They were just the right size so that as they were filled they could be removed easily and weren't over weighted for taking outside to the main bins that went to the street for pick up.  We could easily clean them and they were out of sight.
