exterior inspections: Problems with Exterior Insulation Finish System (EIFS) - 03/25/11 07:21 PM
A lot of commercial properties in the Uniondale New York area have what is called exterior insulation finish system, commonly known as EIFS installed for their exterior wall covering. It is a type of stucco that has been around since the early 1990s. Currently many residential homes in Uniondale, and even the five boroughs have EIFS installed. They look attractive and can last a long time if installed properly. Most existing EIFS in homes and small commercial properties were installed over wood framing and is the non draining type.

exterior inspections: Poor Drainage System - 09/09/09 06:36 PM
Very often when performing a home inspection on the exterior of a property, I come across a poorly maintained drainage system from the gutters, downspouts and extensions. So today it was no different. At this inspection there were no extensions on the rear and side of the house, and to make the condition worse the grading slopes toward the house in some areas. Since the basement is unfinished I figured the walls will tell me something when I do the inside inspection.
