It was only due to the vision and quick thinking of those pre-Statehood Santa Feans that railroad tracks first arrived in Santa Fe in February of 1880! New Mexico was still a “territory” back then and it was through the collective efforts of our territorial citizens who made certain our mountain community would not be without tracks and train service. They made it happen the old-fashion way by subsidizing the effort themselves. There was no federal stimulus package or state government economic development plan to make this a reality.
