What a Manic Monday!!! - 02/28/11 01:45 PM
This is a strange day today!  At 7am I heard the strangest sound and lept out of bed and looked out the
window.  I was expecting it to be a snowplow but no, it was the furthest thing from it . . .

it was a thunderstorm!!!   Thunder and lightening on the last day in February -  weird!   It was pouring rain and I could actually see the snow melting before my eyes!

Then the radio comes on, announcing many many school bus cancellations.  What???
I guess in surrounding areas it was FREEZING rain!

Now that my … (24 comments)

What's for Dinner tonite? - 02/27/11 03:52 PM
We're not having an Oscar Party tonite but we will be watching the show.  I normally would prepare a buffett themed around the nominated movies but not this year - too much going on!
Instead, I thought on this cold, snowy wintery day there should be something warm and cozy in the oven sending a great aroma throughout the house.  So, I decided to grind up some wonderfully fragrant spices and have Moroccan Chicken.
With my mortar and pestle, I grind up the following:
Dry Spice Mix:
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper 3/8 teaspoon fennel seed, ground … (30 comments)

MY NEW CAR ARRIVED TODAY!! - 02/26/11 09:34 PM
Funky, Fun and Futuristic is how it was described when it won AUTOMOBILE Magazine's 2010 Design of the Year ! As they stated:
"So why is it our 2010 Design of the Year? In a word, charm. You'll probably start to smile as you approach it. It's funny-looking, yes, but in an especially agreeable way."
And that was exactly what I did when I first approached it! I had no intention of buying this vehicle but it charmed me! (of course the stats had alot to do with it too!!) I found myself smiling and thinking "where is the big wind-up … (28 comments)

WHEN "THANK YOU" IS UNNECESSARY (but very much appreciated!) - 02/22/11 09:46 PM
Gananoque, Ontario
I was so touched to receive an invitation to attend a "Thank You" event at our local Salvation Army. I made sure I cleared my schedule in order to be able to attend.
It was wonderful to see every single chair in the room filled with a volunteer. Volunteers that Dave Harvey, the Director of our local Gananoque Salvation Army, thought enough of, to host an appreciation luncheon.
It was humbling to see the wonderful buffet that was provided for all to enjoy. Trays of tasty deli sandwiches, fresh fruit, cheese and crackers, and desserts that were calling to everyone … (24 comments)

WE ARE MOST LIKE THE 3 PEOPLE WE SPEND THE MOST TIME WITH! - 02/17/11 06:16 PM
We are most like the 3 people we spend the most time with . . .
does that frighten you?
Who are your three people who have such an effect?
Would you like to make a change ? Fire one and include someone else?
Are your three positive thinkers or is their glass practically empty?
Are you motivated or drained when you're around them?
Do they constantly talk about the state of the market/economy or are they too busy working to give it a second thought?
Whose 3 are you in and what
would they say about … (31 comments)

DO YOU SHARE YOUR DOG'S TRAITS? - 02/16/11 07:52 PM
In honour of the Westminster Dog Show . . .
What kind of a dog you have tells more about you then you know.  From pure breeds to the best loved mutts, each dog will have a personality or habit that it shares with the owner.  (Some dog owners even share their dogs look - you've seen them on Letterman)
I have 2 Australian Shepherds and if we believe the above, what this says about me is that I am:
Easy going, a perpetual puppy that loves to play. Courageous, loyal and affectionate.  Excellent children's companion and great with active children.  … (32 comments)

COLLECTING FOOD FOR OUR GANANOQUE FOOD BANK! - 02/12/11 06:37 PM
Gananoque, Ontario
All this week we have requested that people drop off their non-perishable food items for our "Put your Heart into it"campaign for our local Gananoque Food Bank.
And today, with the sun shining brightly, my lovely husband and I went door to door asking for whatever food items that could be spared.
It was such fun!  Out of all the homes we visited, only one person said no!  I'll say no more.
I got quite a kick out of several elderly men who were frightened that they might give us something that their wife would need for supper tonite!  I … (8 comments)

A GANANOQUE VICTORIAN FASHION SHOW AND TEA - 02/12/11 12:46 PM
Gananoque, Ontario
We're a town of gorgeous, century old homes, many of which have become B & Bs, restaurants and Inns. Some of us have retained these beauties as our homes and others are being returned back to their former glory by new owners.
So it makes perfect sense that The Arthur Child Heirtage Museum would be hosting a
Victorian Fashion Show and Tea !
celebrating some of Gananoque's most prominent men and women of the 1800's with
Victorian clothing modeled by the Historical Costume Club of Kingston.
This will be held on Sunday, February 20th, 2011 at … (4 comments)

FRIDAY'S FLOWER FUNNY - 02/11/11 10:27 AM
Friday's Funny is at the bottom of this so you'll have to scroll down!
******************************************************************************
My husband was amused when I rescued this little stem from the middle of my back yard (dog playground) last fall.  I decided to stick it in some dirt and do the whole Charlie Brown Christmas Tree thing!   At least I would have something green and growing, maybe?
Well imagine my surprise to discover blooms on it this morning with our many feet of snow as a backdrop!

The poor little thing was a violet trying to thrive in an unkind environment. All it needed … (24 comments)

FIRE IN GANANOQUE MAKES FAMILY OF 6 HOMELESS! - 02/09/11 02:03 PM
Gananoque - Nothing scares me more than the thought of a house fire.
I was furious with my husband for days after, in a dream, he opted to save his golf clubs instead of the cats, during a fire. Yes, a dream or a nightmare. And I can only imagine how it would be so very much more traumatic and devastating in real life!!
Well, here in Gananoque, we saw another horrible fire on the weekend.
A fire that has left a family of 6 homeless! (Fortunately, they were not hurt in the fire) Our Gananoque Fire Department was called out … (8 comments)

BRICK SNOW IN GANANOQUE? - 02/07/11 07:08 AM
Gananoque, On
We have an old brick detached garage that looks like a gardener's cottage.  In the summer, the bricks are caught up in a sun trap and are just a mecca for flowers.
Today, I noticed this drift of snow that seemed to fall off the brick wall like a blanket on the bed.  Upon closer inspection, the bricks of the garage had imprinted on the snow drift.  I thought this was pretty cool as I've never seen anything like it before.
I hope you can see it in the photos.  (my husband says I'm just a big kid but … (36 comments)

Dear Ms Emo: Why are there not more homes for sale in Gananoque? - 02/04/11 07:29 PM
Dear Ms Emo:
Why are there not more homes for sale in Gananoque?  We are seriously considering putting our home on the market but we're now wondering are we missing some vital clue?  Do others know what we do not?  Why are there so few homes for sale in Gananoque at the moment?  Should we wait until the spring or summer to list our home for sale?
Signed,

SNOW PLOWS AND WIVES - joke - 02/04/11 09:42 AM
One winter morning in Gananoque, Ontario, Norman and his wife were listening to the radio while eating breakfast. They heard the announcer say,
"We are going to have 8 to 10 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the even-numbered side of the street, so the snow plows can get through." Norman's wife went out and moved her car.
A week later while they were again eating breakfast, the radio announcer said,
"We are expecting 10 to 12 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the odd-numbered side of the street, so the snow plows can … (24 comments)

My Listing Agent Doesn't Show My Home! - 02/03/11 10:41 AM
Gananoque, On
Wendy has provided us with a wonderful article that I believe all Sellers must read.  Selling property has changed a great deal and the behind the scenes activity must be acknowledged.   There are some Realtors who will be successful in bringing the Buyer to you, but others are far more talanted in the marketing of the home to other Realtors!   Thanks Wendy for sharing this great post.

Put Your Heart into it!
The Gananoque Food Bank needs your kind generousity once again . . . People are so thoughtful and good during the Christmas period and they donate much to ensure that those less fortunate can enjoy food on the table during the holidays.
Unfortunately, the holiday period is long gone and the tables are bare once again!
Please join me, Susan Emo, during the week before Valentine's Day, by donating whatever food items you can spare. You can pop by my RE/MAX Riverview Realty office during regular office hours or we can arrange … (4 comments)
