A CHIP BUTTY in honour of the London Olympics - 07/30/12 01:07 PM
A CHIP BUTTY in honour of the London Olympics is what my husband will be enjoying for his dinner tonite!
(You couldn't pay me to eat this but he just loves them)

~ I believe this was first created in Liverpool.
Just in case you are not familiar with this British 'delight' you take 2 pieces (rounds or slices, depending on where you are from) of plain white sandwich bread and butter them quite thickly - not a heartsmart menu item by any means!
You then get chips (french fries) - they can be hot or cold - and pile … (15 comments)

DON'T HATE ME - TODAY I LOVE WALMART! - 07/28/12 01:28 PM
It seems almost everyday someone, somewhere is complaining about Walmart!   It varies but usually you can count on someone being upset with:
their staffing policy their outsourcing of product the unsavoury shoppers their size (the store not the shopper!) But today I am so happy with my local Walmart because I have found the world's greatest fresh blueberries and I have to share a photo with you:

They say they are a "PRODUCT OF CANADA" !!!
(even though they also say 1 US dry pint and they have a label from Naturipe Farms in Florida - what's that all about?)

Gazpacho with a little twist - perfect on these hot and sunny days! - 07/12/12 11:44 AM
I have always been a fan of cold soups from the very first time I made Vichyssoise in 4H Club when I was 11 years old!  (that recipe and others, another day!)
But Gazpacho does seem to be my favourite these days.  Our time on the Costa del Sol was spent enjoying Gazpacho every day for lunch.  As many different versions as there was restaurants to try!   The most memorable was our last beachside lunch on Christmas Eve, the waves practically splashing the windows and us wondering whether our flight was going to be able to manage in the storm that … (13 comments)

License-Free Fishing in Gananoque Starts This Weekend til July 15th - 07/09/12 10:05 AM
License-Free Fishing in Gananoque Starts This WeekendThis weekend is the kick off to Family Fishing Week in Ontario, when everyone can fish without a license.
This is a fantastic idea because I am an old-fashioned girl who believes everyone should be able to grab a rod, dig up some worms, and head to their nearest and dearest fishing spot WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY FOR IT!!!
I am soooooooo against fishing licenses.
If you are over 18 years of age and under 65 years of age, a fishing license is mandatory (except this week)
I LOVE fishing.
I don't need a fancy … (10 comments)

WANT TO LIVE IN THE GREATER KINGSTON AREA? THINK ABOUT LYNDHURST! - 07/08/12 05:04 PM
WANT TO LIVE IN THE GREATER KINGSTON AREA? THINK ABOUT LYNDHURST!

Kingston is located about 26 miles (41 km) to the southwest of Lyndhurst.
The Lansdowne Iron Works, was founded by Wallis Sunderlin on the Gananoque River by 1801. The ironworks enabled the economic development of a small industrial community called Furnace Falls.
The iron smelter was destroyed by fire in 1811. Several mills were established in Furnace Falls by Charles and Jonas Jones of Brockville in 1827.
The settlement was renamed Lyndhurst in 1846
Lyndhurst’s population of roughly 300 residents swells to a bustling crowd of up to … (8 comments)

WANT TO LIVE IN THE GREATER KINGSTON AREA? THINK ABOUT SEELEY'S BAY - 07/08/12 04:27 PM
WANT TO LIVE IN THE GREATER KINGSTON AREA? THINK ABOUT SEELEY'S BAY . . .

Seeley's Bay is a village on the historic Rideau Heritage Route, approximately 25 miles (40 KM) NE of Kingston.  Located just off Highway 15, about 20 minutes north of Highway 401.
The "Bay" was created around 1832 during the building of Rideau Canal and it became a regular stop for the steam wheelers as they travelled up and down the canal.
By 1851, a stagecoach traveled through the village three times per week carrying passengers and mail north from Kingston to Perth to Smiths … (2 comments)

Am I the Only One Who Thinks This is Nuts?? (reblog) - 07/02/12 09:09 AM
For every foolish person who continues to pay for bottled water . . .    please read this wonderful article Malcolm has written.
Bottled water is not a status symbol!  It is a gimmick that far too many people have fallen for.  Especially in our part of the world !
I will admit to having been to Fiji and to having had bottled water whilst there.  HOWEVER, it was Perrier water and back before their fiasco in the '90s and before I grew up and came to my senses!!!
If you feel you are need of having water with you at all … (31 comments)
