kingston: KINGSTON, ONTARIO VOTED "MOST ROMANTIC CITY IN CANADA" !!! (my hometown!!) - 02/11/12 01:28 PM
Just in case you needed one more reason to buy a home in Kingston Ontario . . .
Kingston came in first place in Amazon's 2012 contest
The Most Romantic City in Canada !!
I was born and raised in Kingston so this comes as no surprise to me.  I now live just a few minutes outside the City, in the Town of Gananoque which is equally (or greater) romantic but this contest was limited to Cities in excess of 80,000 people. (we have 5200 if we're lucky)
The fun part is both places are equally gorgeous, both situated on … (16 comments)

kingston: Reblog: Ten things to remove before listing... - 02/03/12 11:27 AM
Gananoque, On
It doesn't matter where your home is, this Top Ten applies!  We never ever live in our homes in the same way as when we're selling our homes - we need to realize this and detach ourselves from it as early as possible.  If you're thinking of selling your home in the Gananoque or Kingston area, take note of the following and then give me a call!

Everyone has heard rumors of de-cluttering when it's time to sell your home. But, what does that really mean?  Before going hog wild and moving … (7 comments)

Whoo Hoooooooo . . . I hear the train a comin, it's comin round the bend, it's comin on the 3rd track that we haven't had since way back when . . . In the last century, maybe two, The Town of Gananoque had a train that came right into the middle of town.  It was a town filled with industrialists and vacationers galore . . .
That train now has a place of honour in the centre of our town overlooking our Centenial Park on the Gananoque River.
But for many reasons, our train station had to follow the direction of the … (20 comments)

kingston: CANNONS, MUSKETS, MUSIC - SUNSET CEREMONY AT FORT HENRY in Kingston - 09/01/11 07:11 PM
We grew up in Fort Henry Heights at the base of Old Fort Henry in Kingston, Ontario.  We played in the moats, tobogganed down the steep hill, pretended to be soldiers firing the cannons . . .   all the fun stuff kids used to be allowed to do!
But the one thing we never did was attend the Sunset Ceremony at the Fort . . .  until last night, my Mother's 83rd birthday!
We decided to surprise her with Dinner and a Show at the Fort and were we ever impressed with the Show that was put on at sunset.

kingston: LOVE IS IN THE SHADOWS! - 06/09/11 01:30 PM
Judy Klein wrote a lovely post the other day BEGUILED BY A SHADOW  which inspired me to share this photo of my Australian Shepherd, Sheila giving a morning kiss to my Mother's 13 year old poodle named Sandy.   Double the pleasure, double the fun!  Love is in the shadows!!
These two have quite the relationship as my Sheila was introduced to my Mother's two toy poodles when she was just 6 weeks old.
She would spend hours herding them and chasing them in circles whenever she would visit, which they seemed to enjoy.
When the decision was made to have my … (25 comments)

kingston: Sellers - Don't Let This Happen To You - Reposted - 06/08/11 11:13 AM

Gananoque, Kingston and 1000 Islands Region
This is a story from the U.S.  but it applies to us as well.  Your Home is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.  That is the definition of Market Value!
Please listen to your Realtor when they tell you what your home is worth.  Should they miss the mark and the market changes, listen to them when they say the price must be improved ie dropped!

kingston: Multi-Generational Living - How it can work and work well! - 06/04/11 07:15 PM
Baby Boomers, Generations X and Y:  Can they happily exist all under one roof?
Many people are now finding themselves in what's now known as the "Sandwich Generation" . . .  caring for their children whilst caring for aging parents.
Is that you?
According to Statistics Canada, in 2006, about 515,000 grandparents shared a home with their grandchildren.  That's up from about 466,000 in 2001.
"People are living long enough that we're seeing more four-generation households", says Barbara Mitchell, professor of sociology and gerontology at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C..
In 2008 alone, 2.6 million Americans became part of multi-generational … (42 comments)

kingston: IT IS TICK SEASON - PROTECT YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR PETS! - 05/14/11 09:55 PM
Gananoque, Ontario
Lyme Disease is caused by the bite of black legged tick infected wit the bacteria.  You might notice a red rash appearing a few days after the bite.  Sort of like a bulls-eye around the bite.
The symptoms of Lyme Disease may include fever, headache, fatigue or muscle and joint pain.  If left untreated, Lyme Disease can progress and affect the nervous system, joints and the heart.  I have a friend who was completely debilitated for months with undiagnosed Lyme Disease.  It can be quite severe!
If you have been bitten by a tick, consult your doctor and if … (18 comments)

kingston: FAQs About Buyer Representation - 05/08/11 11:40 AM

Gananoque, Ontario
This is such a fantastic article, I really felt it important to share with our local Canadian Buyers who still have some of the same misconceptions in the home buying process.
We have what is called a Buyer's Representation Agreement which YOUR Realtor is REQUIRED to have you sign BEFORE any offer is presented, if you are going to be a Client.   This is the contract in which you HIRE an agent to represent you and your needs!

kingston: IT IS KENTUCKY DERBY DAY!! - 05/07/11 02:31 PM
I'm not a huge racing fan but I do love the pomp and ceremony of The Kentucky Derby.
Each year, it has been a tradition of my Mother and I, to celebrate the day together.
Coincidentally, it is usually the first Saturday of the year that we can enjoy my 3 season sun room too.
We are surrounded by our tulips, daffodils and forsythia all in bloom.  The lilac leaves and the flowering crab are just coming into bud and, we can pretty much count on SUNSHINE - something long overdue after the Canadian winters we endure!
I make tiny … (16 comments)
