Butterflies send my spirits soaring! - 08/27/10 11:01 AM
Butterflies, one of nature's most lovely creatures, can send my spirits soaring with just a quick flap of their wings.  Whenever I travel if there is a butterfly exhibit anywhere nearby, I make a concerted effort to visit the facility.
Recently, I visited Brookgreen Gardens just north of Pawley's Island, South Carolina. On these beautiful grounds was a Butterfly House filled with many varieties of these colorful, winged creatures.

And then Murphy's law kicked in and my camera battery died.  I guess I will just have to revisit next year.

Sunrises on Pawley's Island, South Carolina - 08/21/10 07:33 PM
My family held their annual reunion in August in South Carolina and I was blown away by the incredible sunrise each morning. I found myself waking up at 6 a.m., quietly heading out of the house so that I wouldn't wake anyone else and heading towards the beach.
Pawley's Island has beautiful, sandy beaches with sea oats blowing in the ocean breezes. Sunrise is such a peaceful time for gathering your thoughts.

Gardening can be hazardous to your health! - 08/21/10 06:46 PM
Since becoming a real estate professional and working for Royal Kingdom Associates, I had forgotten that vegetable gardening can be hazardous to your health!
I decided this year that in addition to all of my perennial flowers and potted annuals, I would plant some squash. I picked out zucchini and acorn squash and was surprised to see spaghetti squash plants as well.  So, without truly thinking it through, I planted 3 spaghetti squash plants, 2 zucchini plants and 1 acorn squash.
These thriving plants have now taken over half of my garden....spreading in all four directions. They don't seem to be bothered by … (3 comments)

Staring Down Big Horn Sheep on Mt. Evans, Colorado - 08/21/10 06:02 PM
My husband and I recently drove to the top of Mt. Evans to participate in our youngest son's engagement celebration. Josh suprised his girlfriend by proposing after they had climbed to the top. While waiting for them to ascend, I hiked close to the parking lot only to encounter a herd of Big Horn Sheep.  I found myself staring down the sheep as I crept closer and closer.  These creatures truly were bothered a bit by my presence and allowed me to get some close-up photographs:

I love how the background in some of these photos looks like … (40 comments)

Scottish Festival featured men in Kilts! - 08/17/10 09:38 PM
The Scottish Festival and Games were held August 14th and 15th in Highlands Ranch, CO. This was my first year to attend and I was amazed at the size and participation in this celebration of Scottish Heritage. The park was filled with tents representing each clan plus numerous other organizations such as Daughters of the British Empire, Daughters of the American Revolution and Sons of the Confederacy.  As athletes competed at one end of the fields, bagpipe marching bands were competing at the other. There was dancing, lots of food and drink (scotch seemed to be a favorite) and more men … (5 comments)
