denver: Aaargh! - 04/17/11 01:06 PM
Aaargh! was the word of the day as my husband and I visited the Denver Museum of Nature and Science yesterday to view "The Pirates" exhibit. Photographs were not allowed within the exhibit but I was able to take several photos of the displays outside. As you wander through the exhibit, you learn the story of the discovery of the Wyndah and all of its treasures. Beautifully presented and complemented by the volunteers who offered stories and more in-depth details. If you are in the Denver area, make a point to see this wonderful exhibit. The

denver: 2011 Denver Car Show - 04/04/11 03:57 PM
My husband and I attended the Denver Car Show this past weekend. It was so much fun to see all of the new models under one roof. As you can see, I had a great time photographing elements of the cars. Can you figure out which cars the headlights, interiors or dashboards belong to? The Chevy Equinox caught my eye as a good vehicle for working my mountain listings or for doing road trips with camping gear and our dog, Jake. For fun, the BMW captured my heart. Enjoy!

denver: Night Photo Shoot of Denver Exposes me to New Passion - 01/16/10 06:53 PM
For Christmas, my husband gave me a Nikon D3000 camera which was a gift appreciated beyond words! About a week ago, we decided to participate in an evening photo shoot of Denver put on by a local group. We showed up with our camera and a very old tri-pod that had belonged to my father-in-law....it was very flimsy and after setting it up, I made an on-the-spot decision that there was no way I was going to put my brand new Nikon on that contraption....so, I faced a night of taking pictures trying to find a flat surface for my camera.

denver: New Transit Alliance Citizens' Academy Begins Tonight - 09/23/09 07:00 PM
Tonight kicks off the fall class of Denver's Transit Alliance Citizens' Academy and as a former graduate, I have been asked to make a short presentation to the class. All participants are asked to put together a personal action plan as to how they will take the information garnered from the training and participate in community outreach. I have been asked to share how I came up with my action plan, present it to the class and then update them on what I have accomplished so far. Participating in the Academy was a terrific experiece and I would encourage members of

denver: Preparing for Transit Oriented Development in Denver presentation - 08/10/09 05:07 PM
On August 24, I, along with Mike Henderson and others, will be making a presentation at the Jefferson County Board of Realtors on Transit Oriented Development in Denver. Mike, Bill Spriggs and I are recent graduates of the Transit Alliance Citizen's Academy - a seven week in-depth course on FastTracks and Light Rail in Denver. Part of our commitment was to put together a plan on how we could help educate the public on TOD (transit-oriented development) and specifically, the impact in Denver. We have some very knowledgeable people participating in this effort. We (Mike and I) will be focusing on the impact

denver: Lakewood and Denver Metro Area hit hard by storms - 06/07/09 10:13 PM
I spoke yesterday about the number of storms that have hit the Denver/Lakewood area over the past week and today brought the worse.....a tornado struck in Aurora causing extensive damage to the Southlands Mall as well as surrounding neighborhoods. Just across Smoky Hill Drive in Tallyn's Reach, the twister struck the cul-de-sac that my son just moved out of about 30 days ago. His former home was spared, but his wonderful neighbors suffered damage to their homes and yards. Fortunately, no one was hurt. I had been hosting an open house in Northglenn when the dark clouds started rolling in. Hail

denver: Transit Alliance Citizens Academy Update - Trying out the Bus - 03/01/09 06:51 PM
I blogged this past week about how excited I was to have been chosen to be a part of the 2009 Transit Alliance Citizens Academy and the opportunity to really become an advocate for rapid transit and expanded light rail. Then a couple of days ago, it hit me like a brick....it had been years since I actually rode an RTD bus anywhere and I hadn't been on the light rail here in Denver. Having been raised in the outskirts of Washington, DC, I grew up using the bus to get into work on days that three or more of us

denver: City to Acquire Property for Affordable Housing - 02/27/09 07:52 PM
Having just attended the first class of the 2009 Transit Alliance Citizens' Academy this week where we discussed transit-oriented development, I was thrilled to see today in the Denver Post (i have to recognize the demise of the Rocky Mtn. News...what a loss for our community) that the City of Denver will spend $15 million over the next 10 years to acquire property near mass transit stations for affordable housing. According to the Post, Denver will be spending about $15 million buying properties near mass transit in an effort to preserve and create affordable housing. With the John D. and Catherine

We are gathering to learn about transit-oriented development and all of us have a passion for seeing light-rail, expanded bus service and the incredible development surrounding the stations. Over the next months, I will be keeping you apprised of the extensive information that we will be exposed to. I look forward to your input as to your
