transit alliance: New Transit Alliance Citizens' Academy Begins Tonight - 09/23/09 07:00 PM
Tonight kicks off the fall class of Denver's Transit Alliance Citizens' Academy and as a former graduate, I have been asked to make a short presentation to the class. All participants are asked to put together a personal action plan as to how they will take the information garnered from the training and participate in community outreach. I have been asked to share how I came up with my action plan, present it to the class and then update them on what I have accomplished so far. Participating in the Academy was a terrific experiece and I would encourage members of

transit alliance: Completed the 2009 Transit Alliance Citizen's Academy - 04/10/09 06:48 PM
This week, I successfully completed the seven week Transit Alliance Citizen's Academy. After being exposed to an overwhelming amount of information regarding transit-oriented development, I left feeling like I had only touched the surface and that I need to study so much more as I move forward in trying to share what I have learned to date. Mike Henderson, who also works for Your Castle Real Estate, and I are putting a presentation together on Transit Oriented Development and the effect on property values. We will be focusing on the southeast line of the light rail and analyzing specific stations and

transit alliance: Final Touches to my Personal Action Plan - 03/24/09 08:42 PM
We are getting down to the wire to present our personal action plan for the Transit Alliance 2009 Citizen's Academy. My partner in this endeavor, Mike Henderson, who also works for Your Castle Real Estate, and I met today with a computer guru to work out the details of our plan and the specific information that we needed to finalize our presentation. We are putting together a presentation that we can give to local groups who want to hear about Transit Oriented Development. We hope to educate citizens, realtors, developers and others on what this development can mean to our communities.

transit alliance: Transit Alliance 2009 Citizens' Academy - Personal Action Plan - 03/20/09 02:56 PM
I have blogged about my participation with the Transit Alliance Citizens' Academy and I am pleased to present the personal action plan that will be implemented in 2009: Emelyn Morris-Sayre and Mike Henderson (also with Your Castle Real Estate) are teaming up to teach a class on light rail and it's effect on residential home prices in the vicinity of the transit stations. Using data derived from the MLS system, linked to a GIS, and the CSAP scores, an analysis will be done focusing on the Denver Southwest line. Included will be photos of the different stations along the line. We will

transit alliance: Transit Alliance Citizens Academy Update - Trying out the Bus - 03/01/09 06:51 PM
I blogged this past week about how excited I was to have been chosen to be a part of the 2009 Transit Alliance Citizens Academy and the opportunity to really become an advocate for rapid transit and expanded light rail. Then a couple of days ago, it hit me like a brick....it had been years since I actually rode an RTD bus anywhere and I hadn't been on the light rail here in Denver. Having been raised in the outskirts of Washington, DC, I grew up using the bus to get into work on days that three or more of us

transit alliance: City to Acquire Property for Affordable Housing - 02/27/09 07:52 PM
Having just attended the first class of the 2009 Transit Alliance Citizens' Academy this week where we discussed transit-oriented development, I was thrilled to see today in the Denver Post (i have to recognize the demise of the Rocky Mtn. News...what a loss for our community) that the City of Denver will spend $15 million over the next 10 years to acquire property near mass transit stations for affordable housing. According to the Post, Denver will be spending about $15 million buying properties near mass transit in an effort to preserve and create affordable housing. With the John D. and Catherine

transit alliance: 2009 Transit Alliance Citizens' Academy Kicks Off - 02/26/09 08:27 PM
I am so thrilled to have been accepted into the first 2009 Transit Alliance Citizen's Academy for the Denver Metropolitan area. Over 100 people applied for the 50 spots in the Academy and I find myself surrounded by architects, city planners, lawyers and engineers. We are gathering to learn about transit-oriented development and all of us have a passion for seeing light-rail, expanded bus service and the incredible development surrounding the stations. Over the next months, I will be keeping you apprised of the extensive information that we will be exposed to. I look forward to your input as to your
