los angeles: This Saturday, March 17th is St Patrick’s Day! - 03/12/12 12:02 AM
This Saturday, March 17th is St Patrick’s Day!
St Patrick’s Day is largely celebrated by Irish-Americans. Having lived in Boston, MA for over 10 plus years I have learned to accept it, even though it is not a federal holiday in the United States,  in Boston it was treated as such. Alcoholic drinks and food would start around 11:30am and continue on until you ran out of energy or passed out. Most people celebrated St Patrick’s Day by wearing green clothing and drinking traditional “green beer” or other “green alcoholic” beverage.

Having relocated to Los Angeles, I have learned that … (12 comments)

los angeles: Los Angeles: City Of Angels! - 05/17/11 05:26 PM
Los Angeles: City Of Angels!
Los Angeles has a population of approximately 3.8 million inhabitants. This figure alone makes it the second most populous city in the United States after New York City. The city is on almost 500 square miles of land which makes it the largest city based on land size in the United States.

When you see these pictures of downtown, this is what you imagine from a large metropolis, a great downtown Skyline. Some of you who have been reading my Real Estate Blog over a period of time know that I have been featuring many … (38 comments)

los angeles: California Poppy Reserve in the Antelope Valley! A must see Destination. - 04/12/11 06:07 PM
California Poppy Reserve in the Antelope Valley! A must see Destination.
There is so much to see in California. Nature has blessed the Golden State with an abundance of wildflowers; you just have to go look for it. The Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve SNR (State natural Reserve) has been on my list to see for many years.
This spring has been rather interesting for wildflower displays. According to the Park's website it has been an unusual for Viewing of the Poppy Blossoms, because they were late. The first few blossoms came in February a month later than normal. Poppies do … (10 comments)

los angeles: Last night we saw and heard Ken Follett, what a great interview! - 10/01/10 10:00 PM
Last night we saw and heard Ken Follett in conversation with Karen Grigsby Bates. Ken Follett is one of my favorite writers.  Most of you probably know of him even if you did not read anything by him. "The Pillars of the Earth" was voted by the Times of London by readers as one of the 60 greatest novels of the last 60 years.
Ken Follett is a great story teller and a funny writer. I am sure Karen Grigsby Bates a correspondent for NPR News enjoyed interviewing him. He generally does not travel and rarely does book signing events.

los angeles: Do you know what a Joshua tree is? (Yucca brevifolia) - 09/18/10 08:00 PM
Do you know what a Joshua tree is? (Yucca brevifolia)  Many people not only never heard, nor seen one. This tree belongs to the Lily family. The tree has to be above 3000 ft from sea level.  Below this elevation it will not grow. The higher the altitude the more you will see of these strange looking trees. At the same time for the survival of the tree a Desert Climate and the Pronuba moth for the pollination is needed.
Historical documents indicate that Joshua trees were named by the Mormons in the late 1850's as they traveled through the Mojave … (13 comments)

los angeles: The vision of Abbot Kinney “The American Venice Canals” in Venice, CA - 09/07/10 04:49 PM
The vision of Abbot Kinney "The American Venice Canals" in Venice, CA.
The vision of Abbot Kinney "The American Venice Canals" materialized in the late 1890's to early 1900's in spite the opposition and the lack of belief by many in the Greater Los Angeles area.
Abbot Kinney hired a landscape architect from Boston, MA. Shortly thereafter the Grand Canal stared to get dug up. His goal was to make a small town in the "Venetian Renaissance" style.
As with any dream delays are unpredictable if they are caused by nature. Two very disastrous winter storms delayed the project. Nevertheless by … (4 comments)

los angeles: The age old question: What sells a home? - 07/24/10 12:37 AM
The age old question:  What sells a home?  I have read many articles, posts and comments. There is a big school of thought that many agents, brokers believe that the answer is: The Price. I am a firm believer Price is just one of the components. The real reason a house sells is the Realtor®. The Realtor® recommends the price and the marketing strategy.
What is the Marketing Strategy? It is Staging, Open houses, broker's open houses and internet exposure.
Staging is critical, sellers who do not agree to that, I tell them it will take a great deal longer to … (19 comments)

los angeles: Clarifying the $8000 Tax Credit for First Time Home Buyers - 03/01/09 03:36 AM
I feel the need to try to clarify the new $8000 Tax Credit for First Time home buyers. As I was chatting with my Accountant today we started talking about the New and Exiting incentive to get first time buyers into the real estate market.
As we were discussing the benefits we had a few questions that we could not answer:
Why did the politicians pick a date of December 1, 2009 vs. the end of the year? Does the December 1, 2009 date mean Opening of Escrow? Or does it mean the sale must close by December 1, 2009?
 Now … (4 comments)

los angeles: Century City Condominium Market Report for January 2009 - 02/01/09 04:18 AM
I have been monitoring the Century City Condominium Sales activity for quite some time, but I chose not to publish it previously. I have been receiving requests from buyers and sellers to give these statistics. Here is a New Year, a new President, so here we go this is my first Market Report for Century City/ Westwood Condominiums. This will be a monthly report with a year end summary.
Instead of just giving a snap shot of the Market I would like to frame the current Activity in relationship to the past two year.
For the month of January 2007 there … (2 comments)

los angeles: The Secret is getting out. So do you know where Baldwin Hills CA is? - 11/11/08 09:02 PM
When I moved to Los Angeles about twelve years ago I got a listing near View Park and Baldwin Hills. I was very excited, one listing came after another. They were nice middle class neighborhood homes one of the sellers was trying to move up in home and we looked in Baldwin Hills. In those days it was the best kept secret. This was an upper middle class to very affluent neighborhood.
Views were and are  out of this world. Postcard view of Downtown Los Angeles, views of the Hollywood Sign, views of Griffith Park Observatory and the Hollywood Hills. At … (10 comments)

los angeles: What qualities do you look for in a Real Estate Agent? - 10/26/08 07:33 PM
If I was in the Market to a buy Real Estate Today, I would look for the following:
•1.      How responsive is this agent in the initial Contact?
•2.      How quick is the  response via e-mail or telephone
•3.      How is the agent's Geographic knowledge of the area?
•4.      Does he/she have the Market knowledge, i.e.: number of listings on the market, number of homes pending, number of homes sold in the past three months.
•5.      Does he/she seem comfortable, relaxed, and confident and has a pleasant demeanor?
•6.      What is the real estate agent's philosophy toward the market conditions?
•7.      … (12 comments)

los angeles: It's Almost Holloween, Get your Pumpkins and be Creative - 10/15/08 12:29 AM
Well it is almost Halloween. I think it is high time to get your Pumpkins and get your Creative carving skills to work by buying and carving that special pumpkin.
Go to the nearest Local Pumpkin Patch Farms I find it is more memorable, instead of running to your nearest Grocery Store, do something different. Nothing beats a day at the local pumpkin patch farm; it is like picking your own Apples or Strawberries. You have to do it once to appreciate what I am suggesting here. It's guaranteed to put a Jack-o-Lantern-sized smile on everyone's face that you bring along … (4 comments)
