fair housing and antidiscrimination laws: Random Acts of 'BLINDNESS'………. - 10/06/08 01:26 PM
In 2001, I accepted a secretarial job in a small, independently owned real estate company in Raleigh, N.C. From 1994 till 2001...I owned an interior design company in the Cary/Apex area of North Carolina.  Following a separation from my junior high school sweetheart and husband of fifteen years, I NEEDED a break from the responsibilities and pressures of being self-employed. (I had no idea that my decision would lead me to where I am today! ONLY GOD KNEW!)

Having absolutely NO background or experience in real estate, I knew little about ‘fair housing laws' and ‘protected classes'...but … (74 comments)

fair housing and antidiscrimination laws: Rule #4 (of Elizabeth's R.E. Rule Book) ***TO ALL LISTING AGENTS: PLEASE GIVE ME SOME WARNING THAT YOUR SELLER IS INSANE*** - 09/12/08 04:05 PM

A few years ago...I was assisting a young, Hispanic couple with the purchase of their first home. They wanted a home in a very specific area of Raleigh, North Carolina...a popular neighborhood where homes sold fairly quickly. We had been looking for a few weeks when my client called one afternoon to tell me that she had driven past a FSBO (For Sale By Owner) in the neighborhood...that it seemed to be the perfect home.
Immediately, I checked the MLS and found that the home was also listed for sale through a local real estate broker...with a limited service listing agreement...allowing both the owners and the … (50 comments)

fair housing and antidiscrimination laws: It's NOT my fault! Grace Safrin made MeMe do it!!! ;-) - 09/04/08 04:18 PM
In her first...YES you heard me correctly...her VERY FIRST ActiveRain MeMe (My First Me-Me - SUPER Sized :)...Grace Safrin passed the Me-Me torch to eight more ActiveRainers...including ME. At the time of publishing her post, I was away on a personal leave. However, I promised Grace that I would fulfill my obligation AS SOON AS I returned home. HONEY...I'M HOME!!!
According to Grace...there are EIGHT little questions that I MUST answer before I'm allowed to go out and play in the 'RAIN'.

1.     Who is your favorite musical artist?
This is easy to answer! Ever since I saw THIRD DAY in concert in Atlanta, Georgia (back in … (19 comments)

fair housing and antidiscrimination laws: The REAL reason I became a REALTOR® (This will make some people angry…and…I can live with that.) - 11/23/07 11:18 PM
Words are powerful. According to Proverbs 18:21..."the tongue has the power of life and death." For those of you who regularly read my blog, you know that I write straight from my heart...that I choose my words thoughtfully...that I am passionate and authentic...that I care deeply. You also know that I am not afraid to confront the difficult issues...that I am committed to seeking and speaking truth...that I will NOT hide behind ‘political correctness'. I seek neither recognition nor affirmation...I just want to be 'REAL'.

In my lifetime, I've had three seemingly unrelated careers...I've been a comedy club manager/emcee, … (86 comments)

fair housing and antidiscrimination laws: Professional Con Artist Attempts to Frame REALTORS®...Gets Caught in Her Own Trap! - 11/09/07 02:07 PM
For years...a North Carolina woman successfully set up REALTORS® all over the country...making false accusations of racial discrimination and 'steering'. Unbelievably, she made $90,000 - $120,000 a year from settlements resulting from her bogus claims. I imagine, as I did, you are asking yourself..."How did she get away with this for so long?" Sadly...she met with little resistance...until she made accusations against the wrong person...my friend, Mike.

One sunny afternoon, Mike checked his mail and found a notice of a certified letter. He immediately went to the post office to retrieve his letter. The return address indicated the letter was from The Department of … (69 comments)
